Ornamentals are the icing on top of the cake. Making a food forest attractive to work in.

There is no reason why a food forest based on permaculture principles cannot be attractive. Flowers and foliage attract the pollinating insects and birds and make it a pleasant spot for us to visit and work, .... it works for us anyway. The actual time taken to care for many ornamentals can be minimal.

Bougainvillea - Wikipedia

This dwarfed potted Bougainvillea has been bred to grow into a clumping manner. they are ideal for pots because they flower better when starved of food and copious water.

Dwarf Vinca flowers brighten up a herb garden.

Brazilian Red Cloak (Megaskepasma erythrochlamys)

This subtropical plant flowers mainly at the end of summer and keeps its leaves during winter in our garden. Just prune it back in Spring.

A burgundy-coloured, edible Cranberry Hibiscus adds colour to the garden and salads. It is in abundant leaf at present.

Heliconias
Heliconias, take up little space,  survive the dry periods then burst into bloom. They need very little care.

Hanging Baskets

Why can't the chicken house be attractive. Water the pots when you attend the chickens and they will never dry out.

Starfruit Flowers

Starfruit are very ornamental

Developing Dragonfruit

Hand pollination was the secret to getting our Dragon Fruit to flower this year.

Tamarillos
The orange and yellow globes of Tamarillo fruit decorate the garden at this time of year and are delicious. Keep growing on young plants from seed.
